I used to read every article on health that came out, but lately I've given this up as a bad habit. I think it would be fair to say I was a health nut. If you were fat like me and then lost the weight, became fitter then you too might become fixated about your health and with staying fit and healthy.
You should have seen the pile of magazines I had with articles on health in them from new diets to supplements that claim to make you live longer. But nowadays, when I read an article on health, it just fills me up with anxiety, After all, one article on health will say one thing, another day and another article says something else.
It's no good telling people how good soy is one day than saying it can have adverse effects the next. If you're anything like me, there's no mystery, we are just looking for the best way to eat healthily, keep fit and live a good long life.
Every article on health that I read, however, has a different idea of what that would mean. Now take coffee, alcohol and chocolate, three great American favorites, which were considered detrimental to your health, until recently, that is.
So we have scientists now telling us that provided we use them in moderation, dark chocolate, dark beer or Guinness and coffee have positive health benefits. It is just as stupid as saying that dairy ice cream and cake are good cholesterol reducing foods.
I suppose what all this has taught me is to take responsibility for my own health and lifestyle. Of course it won't stop me reading articles on health but in future I will decide how much of it I take notice of.
If I just read the exercise sections and the odd information on nutrition and let my body tell me what it needs then I can't go wrong. It all comes down to this; I need to do what feels right for me, so If I can do this, I can live a healthier, happier, and longer life.
